Our Hosts

Starling Bank are one of a number of cutting-edge challenger banks to emerge from the UK in the last few years. There has been a huge amount of discussion around how banking startups are able to provide a better banking experience than traditional big banks, and we are now seeing these challengers deliver beautiful and easy to use banking applications, with a key focus on customer usability and satisfaction.

If, like many of us at Oliver Bernard, you have had to wait for weeks on end just for a new pin code or for a new bank account to be set up from one of the high street offerings, you will be pleasantly surprised at just how quick the process is with Starling, with their seamless and easy-to-use mobile-only platform.

This is a rare opportunity to see how one of the UK’s most advanced and innovative challenger banks are building a product for millions of people and how they cope with delivering innovative software in a highly regulated industry.

See you there and please let us know if you have any questions!

Adam Kinder & Taylor Allen

Speakers

Greg Hawkins, CTO at Starling Bank

Banking in The Cloud

Leading on tech strategy, engineering and cloud, Greg joined Starling after spending the recent years of his career with McKinsey Digital Labs, Lloyds and CHP. He developed a vision of how banking technology could and should be done so much better and is now leading the efforts from Starling Bank’s team to deliver that to the UK.

At Starling, Greg found the opportunity to build a bank from scratch and put his innovative ideas into practice. Greg has loved programming from the era of ZX Spectrums and BBC Micros, writing and sending in programs to computer magazines while at school in the 80s. He wants to build an organisation that can turn the cool ideas that engineers have into reality for customers in a matter of hours.

Sam Everington, Lead Developer at Starling Bank

Open APIs

With a degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, Sam spent a number of years with Alfa (formerly CHP) as a Consultant before joining Starling Bank as Lead Engineer. At Starling, Sam is responsible for their Open Banking platform and APIs, which he will give us some interesting insight into on the night and how Starling do things.

We have a truly excellent night in store with Starling Bank and a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes at one of the most exciting FinTech company to emerge from the UK this century. Challenger Banks are changing the way that banking is done and are providing their customers with the best possible experience throughout the process. This is a meetup that you really don’t want to miss, so be sure to book your seat and be there on the night!

As always, there will be drinks and networking after the talks, so make sure you set yourself some time to chat with the community afterwards.

We always expect high demand for our events, so if interested, please signup ASAP via the Meetup page. For all other queries please email events@oliverbernard.com.

Look forward to seeing some of you there on Sunday 17th September at 18:00.
